Kyle Gibson: Rising MLB Pitcher

Though he’s currently just a minor league player, Greenfield, Indiana resident Kyle Gibson looks like he has the talent to be a rising star in Major League Baseball. He may need a few years to develop it, but this Greenfield sports player has the ability and the drive to be a force in the pros. Born in 1987 in Greenfield, Indiana, Kyle Gibson originally attended Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. However, he only spent his freshman year at the Indianapolis school; in between his freshman and sophomore years, Kyle Gibson was transferred to Greenfield-Central High School.

Though he couldn’t play baseball his sophomore year at Greenfield (thanks to ineligibility rules by the Indiana High School Athletic Association), Gibson’s baseball career began in earnest at Greenfield-Central. During his junior year, his pitching (he was 7-2) led the Greenfield school to a sectional championship. Kyle Gibson‘s senior year was even better: he had a 0.98 ERA and 140 strikeouts on his way to the Elite Eight of baseball. During the NCAA tournament, he pitched in every game Greenfield played. For his efforts, he was awarded Hancock County Player of the Year honors, was named to the Indianapolis Star All-East team (this also happened his junior year), and also earned a berth with the Indiana All-Star team.

After his graduation from Greenfield-Central High School, Kyle Gibson attended the University of Missouri on a baseball scholarship, despite being selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2006 MLB Draft. In 2009, Gibson joined the 2009 MLB amateur draft, where he was picked 22nd by the Minnesota Twins. He began playing with the A-class Fort Myers Miracle in 2010, but by the end of the year he had been promoted to the AAA Rochester Red Wings. Kyle Gibson’s rapid rise through the ranks of minor league baseball could forecast a rise to the professional leagues in 2011; this famous Greenfield person is certainly an athlete to watch.
