Greenfield, Indiana and Hancock County offer a unique mix of history and Greenfield arts. Downtown Greenfield lifts your spirits as you stroll down the same path famous Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley traveled. Antique shops, museums, a live performance theater, restaurants and Greenfield businesses offer plenty to keep your family busy. Greenfield shopping is well-supplemented by the excellent nearby Indianapolis shopping malls, too.
Entertainment on the Plaza is offered free of charge to the public each Friday during the summer months. The Riley Festival, one of the largest festivals in Indiana, fills the Greenfield downtown area with visitors from all over the country. The Christmas Festival is a great Greenfield event to enjoy the holidays with your family.
During the fall and winter months, there are many activities such as the Old Town Autumn Walk, with leisurely strolls through Old Town to enjoy the vibrantly changing trees and crisp autumn air. In December, a tree lighting ceremony is held and kicks off holiday festivities, which include children’s seasonal craft and story times at the Hancock County Library and horse drawn carriage rides.
A nice new addition to historic downtown Greenfield is the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts, a slickly renovation of the Art Deco-style Village Movie Theatre. The Ricks Centre for the Arts houses an art gallery and a theatre auditorium that are both state-of-the-art in their fields.
While downtown Greenfield is no Indianapolis, it isn’t trying to be. Greenfield gives you a slice of Midwestern culture in a moderate dose.
